Micro/Nano Manufacturing and Measurement Technologies (MMMT) are at the cutting edge of multidisciplinary research, are the key technologies of the future, and are the core of national strategy "Made in China 2025", which will upgrade China from a manufacturer of quantity to one of quality. The relevant research and talent training of MMMT are of great strategic significance for our manufacturing industry, the transformation and upgrade of our industry, as well as the development of social economy. The establishment of International Joint Laboratory for Micro/Nano Manufacturing and Measurement Technologies (IJL-MMMT) will serve as a great platform to build the world first-class research team and research center in the research area of MMMT, which will promote the construction of world first-class discipline. IJL-MMMT intends to learn from experience of the leading countries, such as Australia and the United Kingdom on MMMT, and aims at tackling the key challenges in the frontier of fundamental research and technologies and meeting the demand of the national strategy. IJL-MMMT will deeply cooperate with Australia, the United Kingdom and other countries on scientific research, talent training and other areas, and will explore the possible operation and management mechanisms for the first-class international joint laboratory. We strongly believe that IJL-MMMT will enhance the influence of China in the field of micro/ nano manufacturing and measurement technologies.
The main contributors of IJL-MMMT from XJTU side include three Key Laboratories, i.e. State Key Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems Engineering, State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials and the Ministry Key Laboratory of the Electronic Ceramics and Devices, three Innovative platforms supported by national 111 plans, i.e. “Micro/Nano Manufacturing and Nano Measurement Technologies” platform, “Materials Properties Characterization at Mesoscale and its Size-dependent Effect” platform, “Multifunctional Ferroelectric Materials and Devices” platform. The primary partner of IJL-MMMT oversea is University of New South Wales in Australia. Other partners include the University of Birmingham in UK, University of Southern California in USA, Simon Fraser University in Canada, City University of Hong Kong and so on.
IJL-MMMT operates four research institutes, namely, Institute of micro/nano manufacturing science and technology, Institute of micro/nano sensor and measurement technologies, Institute of micro/nano functional materials and devices, and Institute of micro/nano material service behavior, which will realize the development from single disciplinary to multidisciplinary research.
